The Geographical Journal wrote of Philip Ward's latest book, 'This guide could hardly be bettered. It has a number of fine maps, excellent photos, and the author introduces practical information in a chatty and helpful way. He has a dep love of Libya and has many Libyan friends.' Philip Ward has lived in Tripoli since 1963, and although Sabratha is his tenth book about Libya, this - remarkably - the first detailed guidebook to the Roman city in any language since 1927. Sabratha is both a history and a guide; it is illustrated with two colour plates and fifty pictures in black and white, some of them dating back to the earlies excavations.
